Transitions

When the weather gets cooler toward the end of Septembre, I have this bad habit of compulsively jumping on my longer jackets, big scarfs and ankle boots and completely ignoring all these transitional pieces that I have in my wardrobe, such as short jackets, ballerinas and smaller scarfs, which I otherwise only wear in the Spring. This year I tried to refrain myself and to ease myself into Fall. First of all with this collarless denim jacket, which I love because it allows me to play with collared shirt and smaller elegant scarfs. The three quarter sleeves are also a detail that I love on clothes and that screams mild weather. Secondly, these ballerinas have spent a long time hidden in my closet and it was time for them to see the light again. Plus, their color and material make them extremely autumnal. Finally, the skirt and the bag made a nice addition to the look and they will definitely accompany me through Winter as well.

Here are a few others of my early autumn essentials that I like to keep in my purse: Sunglasses, as I find that the light at sunset can be surprisingly aggressive for the eyes at this time of the year (Anyone else finds that? Or am I just weird?) and a bright happy lipstick (Here, Clinique Poppy Pop).

Happy Autumn everyone!

Last summer days

Since the weather has been kind of summery this afternoon, I thought I would post a few outfits I wore during my boyfriend and I's last week of holiday before going back to uni. I has become a habit of us to head to Menton, a small city on the French riviera, close to the Italian border. Due to a limited budget, our activities this year consisted mainly of swimming and playing in the waves and reading on the beach, waiting for sunset and its beautiful colors.

Top H&M, Skirt Stradivarius, Shoes Moheda (via Zalando), Bag Primark

Dress Camaïeu, Cardigan H&M, Hat from a little shop in Menton

FOTD #3: Soft purple tones

By Terry Ligne Blackstar Eyeliner, L'Oréal Miss Manga mascara, Mac 224 brush, Revlon Ultimate Suede lipstick in Preview, Mac shadows in  (From L-R, Top to Bottom) Haux, Shale, Trax, Satin Taupe, All that glitters and Naked Lunch

This make up look is a huge favorite of mine for colder months. It's a bit smoky, a bit vampy, while being super wearable and for every day life. You could also very easily adapt it for fancier occasions: thicken the liner (By Terry Ligne Blackstar) and add some pencil liner on the bottom lash line and you've got your evening look sorted. The eye is look is made of some two Mac shadows I adore: Shale (on the lid) and Trax (in the outer corner). The only down side to them is that they are a little dry and I really recommend using them wet to get a better color intensity. I also added a little bit of Haux in the crease and Naked Lunch under the brow. For the lips, I went shopping my stash and came back with the Revlon Suede lipstick in Preview. Now, the formula of this range was strongly criticized when these came out and it is definitely not one of my faves. However, this shade I can't part with, as it is a perfect rosy berry color with a hint of shimmer in it that will suit every carnation.

The Autumn Lip: Mac Plumful alternatives (and a dupe)

From top to bottom: Mac Plumful, Topshop Lovestruck, Revlon Ultimate Suede in Preview, Kiko Utlra Glossy Stylo in 813 (Apple Blossoms), Bourjois Color Boost in Plum Russian, Marc Jacobs Lip Vinyl in Kissability

When Autumn comes about, time has come for beauty bloggers to list their favorite lip colors for Fall and a recurrent appearance on these lists is Mac Plumful. And while Plumful is a beautiful lipstick that I like to dig out every September, I have complied a selection of alternatives and have even found a dupe in the process! These are almost exclusively drugstore priced products and offer the same sheer mauvy-berry hue that is so appreciated in Plumful.

Here are my picks:

  • Topshop lovestruck: I'm so glad to have found this lipstick as it is truly the closest dupe i have found for Plumful. Beautiful color, beautiful finish: a must have!
  • Revlon Ultimate Suede lipstick in Preview: Although this one has a very weird formula (glossy at first, then it sets like a liquid lipstick), I still find myself going back to this color as it is extremely flattering and not too vampy.
  • Kiko Ultra Glossy Stylo in 813: The Glossy Stylo from Kiko are one of my ultimate favorite line of lipsticks out there. The shade 813 is quite light, but still gives that effortless Autumn vibe to your look. Plus it's super moisturizing. Bonus!
  • Bourjois Color Boost In Plum Russian: While being a bit richer and darker than Plumful (but still very close), Plum Russian is also a very good alternative and it will give you that sheer but buildable raspberry color for a fraction of the price!
  • Marc Jacobs Lip Vinyl in Kissability: This is not so much an alternative as more of a little "something extra" that would nicely sit on top on any of these lipsticks and looks super pretty on its one.
What is your must-have lip color for Fall? Let me know in the comments! :-)
